Surfing the Internet to Prepare for SOL’s

The Internet can be a very powerful tool for helping students prepare for their Standards of Learning tests. Listed below are some SOL web sites that may be useful in preparing your child for the SOL tests. As always, parents should monitor the sites their children are visiting on the web.

• Collection of various Internet sites that offer practice tests and activities in history, math, science, and English. (VirginiaSOL.com is not associated with Virginia's State Board of Education.)
• Check out these links:  Jefferson Lab, Proof Reading Makes Perfect, Grammar Gold, Read Story and Answer Questions (second one), and The English Zone.
• FunBrain.com and FunSchool.com offer cute interactive games.  Unfortunately you may receive some annoying popup ads.

• Offers interactive quizzes made from previous VDOE test release items. Most reading tests do require quite a bit of scrolling.

• Numerous activities to look through. Flash cards and matching activities are available for some subject areas.
• Many links are to other Internet sites on the web.
• Once you select a subject area, try the link for “Games and Tests”. Play Jeopardy and Millionaire as a way to review for science and social studies.

• If you would like to review the types of questions your child can expect, review last year’s test items with your student.  Go to the following web site and print out the released test items.
